ENG3C - English (College):

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will study the content, form, and style of a variety of informational and graphic texts, as well as literary texts from Canada and other countries, and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms for practical and academic purposes. An important focus will be on using language with precision and clarity. The course is intended to prepare students for the compulsory Grade 12 college preparation course.

ENG3E - English (Workplace):

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in the workplace and in daily life. Students will study the content, form, and style of a variety of contemporary informational, graphic, and literary texts; and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms for practical purposes. An important focus will be on using language clearly and accurately in a variety of formal and informal contexts. The course is intended to prepare students for the compulsory Grade 12 workplace preparation course.

ENG3U - English (University):

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will analyze challenging literary texts from various periods, countries, and cultures;, as well as a range of informational and graphic texts, and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms.. An important focus will be on using language with precision and clarity and incorporating stylistic devices appropriately and effectively. The course is intended to prepare students for the compulsory Grade 12 university or college preparation course.

IDC30/3M - Language for Travel and Culture (Open & Mixed):

The vision of this course is to give students an introduction to various European and Canadian First Nations languages as they are used in tourism, general culture and everyday life. The goal of this course is to encourage students’ interest in travelling and to introduce students to the languages of Europe and expose them to the Indigenous Canadian languages and Cultures to be studied. Students will learn the language of travel and tourism and study the geographies, landmarks, histories of the 3 European countries of focus. Students will be introduced to the native languages of France, Spain and Italy, and a unit on Canadian languages including First Nations and Quebecois. No Prerequisite

FSF3U - French (University):

This course draws on a variety of themes to promote extensive development of reading and writing skills and to reinforce oral communication skills. Students will gain a greater understanding of French-speaking cultures in Canada and around the world through their reading of a variety of materials, including a short novel or a play. Students will produce various written assignments, including a formal essay. The use of correct grammar and appropriate language conventions in both spoken and written French will be emphasized throughout the course.

LWICU - International Language - Italian (University):

This course offers students the opportunity to further develop their knowledge of the international language (Italian) and to enhance their communication skills. Students will use increasingly sophisticated language in a variety of activities that will enable them to speak and write with clarity and accuracy. Students will also enhance their thinking skills through the critical study of literature, and continue to explore aspects of the culture of countries where the language (Italian) is spoken through a variety of print and technological resources.

LWSCU - International Language - Spanish (University):

This course offers students the opportunities to further develop their knowledge of the international language(Spanish)and to enhance their communication skills. Students will use increasingly sophisticated language in a variety of activities that will enable them to speak and write with clarity and accuracy. Students will also enhance their thinking skills through the critical study of literature, and continue to explore aspects of the culture of countries where the language is spoken through a variety of print and technological resources.

NBE3U Contemporary Aboriginal Voices Grade 11 (University):

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills through the study of works in English by Aboriginal writers. Through the analysis of literary texts and media works, students will develop an appreciation of the wealth and complexity of Aboriginal writing. Students will also conduct research and analyse the information gathered; write persuasive and literary essays; and analyse the relationship between media forms and audiences. An important focus will be the further development of students’ understanding of English-language usage and conventions.

NBE 3U English is a compulsory Grade 11 English, this can be counted towards University or College courses.

NBE3C - Contemporary Aboriginal Voices (College):

This course emphasizes knowledge and skills that will enable students to understand media communication in the twenty-first century and to use media effectively and responsibly. Through analyzing the forms and messages of a variety of media works and audience responses to them, and through creating their own media works, students will develop critical thinking skills, aesthetic and ethical judgment, and skills in viewing, representing, listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

NBE3U - Contemporary Aboriginal Voices (University):

This course explores themes, forms, and stylistic elements of a range of literary, informational, graphic, oral, cultural, and media texts about and from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures in Canada. Students will analyse the changing use of text forms by Aboriginal authors from various periods and cultures to express themes such as identity, relationships, and sovereignty. Students will create oral, written, and media texts to explore their own ideas and understanding, focusing on the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. The course is intended to prepare students for the compulsory Grade 12 English university or college preparation course.
