The Lakeshore Catholic Gators senior boys basketball team came close to recording its first-ever win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Niagara Catholic Athletic Association play before dropping a 75-68 decision Wednesday on their home floor.

The Gators led 18-14 after one quarter, trailed 35-34 at the half thanks to a Notre Dame three-point buzzer beater and took a 57-54 lead into the final quarter before falling to the Irish. The game was tied 66-66 with 2:31 left and Notre Dame led 70-68 with less than a minute left in the game. The Irish closed the game out with a 5-0 run.

Last season, the Gators lost 67-55 to the Irish after Notre Dame won the seven previous meetings by an average margin of 32.7 points.
