The Lakeshore Catholic Gators senior girls basketball team opened defence of its Niagara Catholic Athletic Association AA title with a 46-25 road win over the Saint Paul Patriots Tuesday.
The Gators enter the season motivated by a loss to the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs in last fall’s Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association semifinals.
“When we were playing against Churchill we lost our momentum and that’s why we didn’t win,” said Shania Hintenberger, who led her team with 16 points Tuesday. “It provides us with a lot of motivation and for myself in my last year at Lakeshore it is very motivational.”
