
It was a July to remember for Lakeshore Catholic student Lexi Snider.
The Grade 12 athlete was a member of the Native Dream Team volleyball squad that captured a bronze medal at the Global Challenge in Croatia and then suited up for a Team Canada squad that won a gold medal at the All Nations Volleyball Challenge in Edmonton.
The Native Team Dream first met in Germany for some team bonding and then went to Slovenia to train before competing in Croatia against squads from Austria, Italy, Sweden, the United States and Latvia.
“It was special because even though we went as Canadians, we were representing Turtle Island,” Snider said. “We were from all different Indigenous communities.”
The 16-year-old Port Colborne resident was representing the Community of Maniwaki, Que. Her maternal grandparents are Metis from Quebec.
