About Us

Principal's Welcome

Welcome to our school’s website. My name is John Markovich and I’m truly blessed to have been appointed the 8th Principal of Lakeshore Catholic High School on September 1, 2023. Located in the beautiful city of Port Colborne, Lakeshore Catholic runs alongside the Welland Canal and within walking distance of Lake Erie. Opened in 1988, Lakeshore Catholic has grown in reputation, recently branded an AP (Advanced Placement) school for those students who are looking for a more competitive and rigorous education, while also growing its Skilled Trade programs spanning from Dunnville to Wainfleet through Port Colborne and the Greater Fort Erie landscape. Students interested in exploring a skilled trade have the opportunity to earn a Red Seal in these various Specialist High Skills Major sectors both onsite and offsite in our neighbouring communities: Manufacturing; Construction; Arts and Culture; Transportation (Automotive); Justice; Green Energy (Environmental); and Health and Wellness to name a few. Please reach out to me or any member of our Student Services team for more information.

As you may have learned in the ‘Who We Are’ section above, Lakeshore Catholic High School has evolved exponentially since its genesis in other areas as well. Our Senior Football team is a three-time winner of the provincial Golden Horseshoe Bowl – an extraordinary achievement. Most other sports programs over Lakeshore Catholic’s 35+ years have also won Zone/NCAA and SOSSA championships – from girls and boys basketball and volleyball, girls rugby, badminton, soccer, and boys hockey to name a few. We also are home to an extraordinary Performing Arts Centre where our drama and music department has orchestrated an incredible number of plays and musicals; moreover, our 650-seat theatre has also welcomed many musical guests over the years in its Concert Series, from Kid Rock to Blue Rodeo to the Great Lake Swimmers among others. Beyond that, Lakeshore Catholic provides other ways for students to showcase their many talents in the arts and technology fields in various Arts Nights and VEX Robotic competitions. Our tech labs and indoor health and wellness centers are outstanding - our facility truly is second-to-none!

A member of Lakeshore Catholic’s graduating class of 1994, I am the 1st alumni to act as Principal of this great school – what an honour! Our school is a well-established educational community that centers Jesus Christ in our hallways, our classrooms and in our actions – Lakeshore Catholic High School “celebrates diversity and fosters spiritual growth, inspiring all to reach their full potential in mind, body, and spirit.” It is a safe, accepting and inclusive school for all learners and with that, our school’s motto – established by the first Principal of this school, Patrick Hudak, -- to “Think Clearly, Feel Deeply, and Act Wisely” permeates our everyday fabric. Our students’ voices matter at this school – they will be heard and their vision will help steer the ship of this great school.

Godspeed and Go Gators!

John Markovich, Principal
