Grade 11 Arts

ADA3M - Dramatic Arts (University/ College Preparation):

This course requires students to create and perform in dramatic presentations. Students will analyse, interpret, and perform dramatic works from various cultures and time periods. Students will research various acting styles and conventions that could be used in their presentations, and analyse the functions of playwrights, directors, actors, designers, technicians, and audiences.

AMG 3O- Guitar (Open):

This course emphasizes performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history. This course is designed for the guitar student who will learn how to tune the guitar, read chord charts and melodic notation, be introduced to folk, rock, pop, blues, jazz and classical styles through performance, listening, music theory and the history of the guitar. Prerequisite: AMG2O

AWR3O - Film/ Video (Open):

This course explores the history and genre of films by giving students the opportunities to examine various techniques used by past and present filmmakers. Students will develop analytical and interpretative skills through skills through research, large and small group projects, independent projects, written and oral presentation. Students will learn to respect and understand the history, cultural heritage and pluralism of today's contemporary society.

AMI3M - Instrumental Music (University/ College Preparation):

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will perform technical exercises and appropriate repertoire, complete detailed creative activities and analyze and evaluate live and recorded performances. They will continue to increase their understanding of the elements of music while developing their technical and imaginative abilities.

AVI3M - Visual Arts (University/ College):

This course enables students to further develop their knowledge and skills in visual arts. Students will use the creative process to explore a wide range of themes through studio work that may include drawing, painting, sculpting, and printmaking, as well as the creation of collage, multimedia works, and works using emergent technologies. Students will use the critical analysis process when evaluating their own work and the work of others. The course may be delivered as a comprehensive program or through a program focused on a particular art form (e.g. photography, video, computer graphics, information design).

AMC3M -MUSIC FOR CREATING:

This Grade 11 creation and beats course develops students’ musical literacy through performance and the preparation and presentation of music productions. Students will perform works at a level consistent with previous experience and ability. Students use and develop current technology and the creative and critical analysis processes to plan, produce, present, and market musical productions. Students will respond to, reflect on, and analyze music from various genres and periods, and they will develop skills transferable to other aspects of their life and their careers.

AWA3O - Arts and Craftsl (Open):

This course focuses on the exploration and creation of both traditional and contemporary crafts. Students will use the Creative Process to make artworks using a variety of materials and reflecting on a wide range of subjects. They will discuss and evaluate artworks utilizing the Critical Analysis Process. Students will explore and create works of art within a personal, contemporary, historical, and cultural context. Through the process of creation of artistic works, students will develop terminology, techniques, and learn responsible practices associated with arts and crafts.
